Behind the Scenes
Raw. Unfiltered. Mostly rehearsed. What happens when the cameras are rolling and the cargo shorts are on.

"The camera sees everything.
The cargo shorts hide nothing."

"I shook 47 hands in 10 minutes. My right hand is completely numb. I think I dislocated something. But you know what? Every single one of those handshakes said 'I am a man who knows things about trucks.' And that's what matters."

"They have six pockets. Six. I've never needed more than two pockets in my life but I'm told the extra four are 'aspirational.' I put my phone in one, my keys in another, and the other four are just... there. Waiting. For what? I don't know. But I feel powerful."

"Some guy said 'how about that play in the third quarter' and I just nodded and said 'unbelievable.' He agreed. We had a moment. I don't know what sport we were talking about. I think it was either football or hockey. They both have quarters, right? No. One of them has periods. I should stop talking."

"I've been in the fastener aisle for 22 minutes. I need a toggle bolt. I don't know what a toggle bolt looks like. I don't know what a toggle bolt does. I picked up something that says 'toggle' on it. It might be a toggle bolt. It might be a light switch. I'm buying it either way. Confidence is the real tool here."

"I picked up a copper elbow joint, turned it over twice, held it up to the light, nodded slowly, and put it back. I have absolutely no idea what it's for. But three men saw me do it and one of them whispered 'that guy knows his stuff.' Peak performance."

"She asked me what I'm most afraid of. I said 'nothing.' She asked me again. I said 'maybe... traffic.' She looked at me for a long time. I maintained eye contact. She blinked first. I won. That's how emotions work, right?"

"When she asked if I miss my dog, I felt something in my chest. It was either emotion or the gas station burrito from earlier. I chose to believe it was the burrito. I said 'he's a good boy' in a completely flat voice and moved on. The judges gave me a 9.2. My dog would be proud. If dogs understood scoring systems."

"I lost $200 in fake chips and I said 'that's how it goes sometimes' with absolutely zero inflection. The judges said it was the most convincing display of emotional suppression they'd seen all season. I'm devastated about the fake money. But in a chill way."

"Tomorrow I either win the Golden Cargo Shorts or I go home with regular shorts. Regular shorts with only two pockets. I can't go back to that life. I've tasted six pockets. There's no going back."

"I did it. I'm the Straight Act Champion. I'm holding the Golden Cargo Shorts and they're heavier than I expected. Fourteen pockets. I'm going to put something in every single one. I don't know what yet. Maybe feelings. No. Definitely not feelings. Probably just more keys."
